Egg donation program Abroad Greece

  Egg donation in Greece

In 1987 Prof. Mantzavinos and his team gave birth to the 1st child in Greece born with the method of egg donation.

Today there are thousands of women who, for many different reasons need donated eggs in order to conceive. The egg donation is an anonymous procedure in which the donor provides oocytes to the receiving couple. Donated eggs from volunteers are fertilized with sperm from the recipients’ partner. After fertilization, the resulting embryos are transferred to the receiving patient following gestation.

Egg donation is recommended in women who have:

1.  Primary ovarian failure
2.  Become menopausal, either naturally or as a result of surgery, radiation or chemotherapy
3.  Undergone repeated failed attempts at IVF due to poor embryo quality or failed fertilization
4.  Failed to respond adequately to fertility drugs during IVF stimulation
5.  A history of repeated miscarriages
6.  A genetic disorder which could be passed on to their child

Egg donation Treatment involves fertilizing donor eggs with sperm from the recipient’s partner and transferring the resulting embryos into the recipient’s womb. The recipient is put on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to allow her cycle to be synchronized to that of the donor and for the womb to be prepared to receive the embryos.

Is the egg donation treatment allowed in Greece? Yes, based on the actual legal framework for the IVF treatment in Greece, it is allowed to offer a donor egg program. Therefor we do have an egg donation program at Embryoland IVF Center Athens.

Short waiting list for the egg donation in Greece
Restrictive legislation in countries such as the UK, means that in the case of egg and sperm donation, there is a major shortage of donors as there is no longer anonymity for these people.
In Greece there are no such anonymity issues which means that there are plenty of donors and much shorter waiting lists for a donor egg program for our patients from abroad. This last issue is so important, not only from an emotional perspective, but also from a biological one.

We are usually able to find a suitable donor within a short time since your first appointment. We will carry out all the necessary blood tests and scans required for your treatment to minimize the number of trips you need to make. The pregnancy rates with egg donation tretament are as high as 60% on the first attempt and feedback from our patients who have received treatment there has been very positive.

Embryoland IVF Center Athens will also provide all the counseling required before embarking on egg donation.
